MORE ABOUT EACH SESSION
Session One
“Thermal Performance of Concrete Masonry Systems”
Presenter: Jack Kennedy of York Building Products
This trending presentation explains the role of thermal mass in building design, building energy efficiency, and occupant comfort and discusses the role R-values and U-factors play in the design of energy-efficient building envelopes and code compliance. It examines the design
options in concrete masonry construction for compliance with the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), and evaluates various
strategies to maximize energy performance, including placement and types of insulation, with concrete masonry systems. 1 AIA/CEU (HSW)
Session Two
“The Changing Environment – Achieving Resilience & Sustainable Designs with Masonry”
Presenter: Christine ‘Tina’ Subasic, PE, LEED AP
In this seminar attendees will learn about the various ways buildings interact with the environment. The relationships between resilient design, sustainable design and the base building code will be explored. Examples of masonry buildings resilient to natural hazards will be provided. Environmental product selection information will be reviewed. The embodied carbon of masonry products will be examined along
with suggestions to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings constructed with masonry. 1 AIA/CEU (HSW)
Session Three
“Masonry Cleaning Approach & Methodology”
Presenter: Casey Weisdock of the International Masonry Institute
This presentation considers several parameters that surround and affect decisions on historic masonry surface treatment, including patina,
soiling, weathering, cleaning, and matching – beforehand and during the project. These include aligning the purposes of cleaning with expectations, who makes decisions and when, applicable standards, methods of specifying cleaning, developing a cleaning plan, and field considerations such as sequence of work, environment conditions, protection, and field testing and mock-ups. A general overview of currently
available treatments will be presented: water, misting, detergents, chemical, biocides, poultice methods, micro-abrasive systems, mechanical hand tool methods, and laser. Understand how to select the method(s) appropriate for the project. 1 AIA/CEU (HSW)
Session Four
“Drained And Back-Ventilated Rainscreen Cladding Design ”
Presenter: Rob Klein of ROCKWOOL
This one hour educational session will cover the latest in building enclosure technology for energy efficient buildings. A ROCKWOOL expert
will provide an in-depth discussion of emerging wall designs that provide durable, cost-effective and thermally-efficient performance. 1 AIA/
CEU (HSW)
