Each year more owners, developers, and builders execute projects through alternative delivery methods across market sectors. In fact, according to research conducted by FMI, design-build is anticipated to account for as much as 47% of construction spending by 2025. Federal, transportation, education, and private organizations are all trending up when it comes to the implementation of alternative delivery, and all its subsets are increasing in popularity and viability across project types. The opportunities for overall project cost savings, reduced design and construction schedules, earlier and more reliable procurement of materials and products, and single-source contracting are all enticing benefits to owners and clients. Conversely, when poorly executed, alternative delivery can generate overruns and delays from which it is difficult to recover.
