Sealing Joints in the Building Envelope: Principles, Products & Practice
Watertight expansion joints are a key component for all structural design and construction. This presentation, provided by Sika Emseal, touches on the many features offered in a successful system, including movement capabilities, thermal and acoustic integrity, UL fire ratings, aesthetics, traffic durability, and more. Discussion will revolve around benefits and shortcomings of the many different systems on the market today.
Learn about the fundamental design issues affecting joint sealing, forces that cause moisture ingress and where moisture gets in, joints between dissimilar materials, and installation and quality management. This program, designed for architects, specifiers, contractors, installers, as well as facility managers and owners, is an educational session registered with AIA CES for 1 LU/HSW. Continuing education certificates will be available upon request.
Presenter Credentials and Biographical Information: Van Burriss is an independent manufacturer’s representative with 30 years in the construction industry. In partnership with Kenefic Sales Associates, he represents several manufacturers of construction materials with a focus on the building envelope. Van is involved with the Construction Specifications Institute, the Philadelphia Building Enclosure Council, the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants, and the International Concrete Repair Institute and presents regularly on a variety of building envelope-related topics.
