2023 Conference, Expo & Design Awards

AIA Central Pennsylvania members will be gathering in person on September 14th to celebrate design excellence, this time in the city of Lancaster.   The day will offer three one hour architectural building tours, locations still to be determined, a vendor exhibition and happy hour, followed by a keynote speaker, and finally ending the night with the Excellence in Design Award reveal.  The 2023 conference location is Excelsior, 125 King St., Lancaster, PA  17602

Afternoon Architectural Tours  (Updated Information!)

• • 2:00 to 3:00 PM: Tour #1: Steven Holl’s Winter Visual Arts Center at Franklin & Marshall College.
    • Parking in neighborhood- Park along Buchanan Avenue
    • GPS route to 825 Buchanan Avenue to get to the correct location
    • leading tour: Sheldon Wenger, head of on-campus development projects 
  • 3:00 to 3:20 PM: Drive from F&M to downtown. 
    • Recommend parking at East King Street Garage, directly across street from Excelsior.
    • Parking will be at each attendee’s expense.
  • Guests use restrooms in Excelsior prior to walking tour
  • 3:20 to 4:20: Tour #2: C. Emlen Urban, Lancaster’s Renowned Architect, Walking Tour
  • Leading tour: Dan Gagliano
  • Meet in front of Excelsior.
  • 1 Hour architectural walking tour of C. Emlen Urban buildings in central downtown, led by Dan Gagliano and Matt Barley.
  • Largely based on the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County’s 2022 C. Emlen Urban Architectural Tour in the City of Lancaster (https://hptrust.org/product/c-emlen-urban-architectural-tour-in-the-city-of-lancaster-book/)
  • Approximately 1 mile of walking at medium pace, including hills.
  • End at Southern Market.
  • 4:20 to 5:20: Tour #3:  C. Emlen Urban, The Southern Market, Adaptive Reuse – Interior/Exterior Tour
  • guiding the Tour: Brent Stebbins and Dustin Julius
  • 5:20 to 5:30 PM: Walk back to Excelsior for Expo and Happy Hour

5:00 – 6:45 pm Happy Hour and Vendor Expo – Enjoy drinks and appetizers at the Excesior 

6:45 – 7:30 pm Keynote Speaker – This year’s keynote speaker will be Matthew Goerke.  Matthew will be presenting the Memory Switch Workshop

7:30 – 9:00 pm Design Awards
