AIA Central Pennsylvania’s President’s Message
Fellow AIA Members,
I am honored to serve as your 2022 AIA Central PA Section President. Over the past several years our leadership team has worked to transition from a chapter to a section of the state, and 2022 will serve as our first section year. As we have discussed with our members in the past, we hope this transition allows us more time to better connect with our members and increase our programs. Over the past two years, we have postponed many events, and switched others to virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic; I am hopeful this year will provide our leadership team with the opportunity to expand our events and continue to connect with our members.
Because of our location near the capitol and the closeness to AIA PA, we have unique opportunities for advocacy within our group. We also have several strong local organizations that we look forward to building and strengthening our relationships with, including USGBC, ACE Mentor Program, Harrisburg Area Community College, Revit Users Group, Historic Harrisburg, ABC and SCAEC.
I am excited to serve as president during this pivotal time in our history. I encourage all of you to get involved and explore the value your membership to the AIA brings in 2022. Getting involved in one of our committees allows you to shape the future of AIA Central PA.
Please be on the lookout for updates on events, educational opportunities, and advocacy updates from leadership council. Mark your calendars now for the spring and fall lecture series and the architecture expo, which will be held in September in Harrisburg. If you have any questions or suggestions for the AIA Central Pennsylvania Leadership Council, please feel free to contact me. I hope to see you at our next event!

Lecture Series is back for May 2022
AIA Central PA
Lecture Series
AIA Central PA is soliciting Sponsors for our 2022 lecture series – Sponsorships at
the $2,500, $500, & $300 levels are available. The lecture series are cherished
opportunities for the AIA and our community to gather and engage with national leaders
in the profession and learn about inspiring projects from around the world.
The 2021 Lecture Series included Thomas Phifer, FAIA making an online presentation
titled “Four Museums” on May 12th and Elizabeth Whittaker, AIA spoke to a full house
on Thursday November 4th at the Armstrong campus in Lancaster with a presentation
titled “Material Logic(s)”.
We intend to have 2 lectures again in 2022 (Spring & Fall) although we have not yet lined
up the speakers. We are planning to hold both as in-person events on the heels of last
Fall’s return to the in-person format sold out. Beth was the perfect mix of remarkable
talent and work combined with being easy to talk with which translated to a memorable
evening of peers and colleagues reconnecting in person around inspiring architecture.
Please consider sponsoring the 2022 AIA Central PA Lecture Series with a $500
donation or as an underwriter for $2,500. For $500 we will provide you with a full-page
advertisement in our Program and 2 tickets to the lecture. As an underwriter you will
receive all the benefits of a sponsor as well as prominent recognition in all event related
materials and you would be able to make brief remarks to the group at the start of the
lecture. Visit our website at https://aiacentralpa.org/about/sponsorships/
The AIA Central PA Lectures are memorable evenings when a large group of our
members gather to be inspired and socialize. Please do not hesitate to contact me with
any questions or concerns and thank you for considering my request.
Sincerely,
Chris Dawson, AIA, LEED AP BD+C
