Spring Lecture Series Recap

Thomas Phifer, FAIA was the speaker on May 12th for the AIA Central PA Spring Lecture. Tom’s presentation titled “Four Museums” was a deep dive on his firm’s design of the North Carolina Museum of Art, the Corning Museum of Glass, the Glenstone Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw.

WATCH THE RECORDING

It was deeply inspiring to see Thomas Phifer & Partners work and understand the painstaking attention to not only how daylight is handled in the museum galleries but also how the patron experience was considered. Tom spoke to their attention to the spaces between the galleries as a critical component for viewing the art. Seth Wentz, Jim White, and Michelle McKenna were the driving forces behind making the lecture happen and I am grateful for their energy and commitment. We had about 100 people tune in and take part again. The Q&A portion at the end of the presentation made the experience specific to AIA Central PA and provided some of the access that has been so special about the lecture series. Undoubtedly it is better to be able to gather for a lecture in person and we are looking forward to the Fall in-person lecture.

Thank You to all the Sponsors – 13 sponsors made the lecture possible. It is meaningful to see support continue for our lecture series given the impact of a global pandemic on the economy.
