SUMMARY:South Central Sketchup Meetup July 2025
DESCRIPTION:Let’s go!\nCome out for our March Sketch Crawl!\n\nWHEN:\nSaturday\, July 26th\nWHERE: \nYork City Square\, intersection of George St & Market St \n(use address: 1 West Market St\, York\, PA) \nWe’ll meet on the square and scatter from there. \nTIME:\nSketch Crawl 11 AM-1 PM\nSketch Throwdown 1-2 PM\, location to be determined. \nWe have the option of sketching inside or outside at Lancaster Southern Market\, weather permitting\nInvite a friend\, see you there! \n\nMARK YOUR CALENDARS: UPCOMING SKETCH CRAWLS:  \n\nSaturday\, August 30th\, OFF\, NO SKETCHING\nSaturday\, September 27\, 11am – 1pm\, Location TBD\nINVITE A FRIEND(S)\, SEE YOU THERE!\n\nGroup Contact: James Hamrick – Architect \n\n\nPO Box 20638\nYork\, PA 17402\n\n717/891.2681\njim@hamrickarchitect.com\n\nPlease visit the group’s site on Facebook (South Central PA Urban Sketchers) for more info about the group\, announcements\, and photos. Invite a friend and Hope to see you Saturday! \n_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________\nThe main focus of an urban sketchers chapter is for everyone to meet up in a city or town…go out…and…sketch! These gatherings are called “Sketch Crawls.” We would rotate through different regional cities and small towns\, at this point maybe once a month. These would typically be held on Saturdays or Sundays. We would meet on a designated day at a designated time at a designated place. Then everyone would scatter to sketch for about 2 hours\, say 11 AM-1 PM. \nWe would then gather at a local craft brewery\, grab drinks and snacks\, and have a “Throwdown.” The Throwdown is where everyone lays out their sketches side by side…everyone walks around and looks at all the sketches…hangs out and talks sketching. Then rinse…repeat…next month! \n A few very important items: \n\nYou do not need to be a polished trained artist to participate. I expect from beginners to veterans to participate. You just have to enjoy sketching!\nSketches do not need to be a finished drawing\, ready for framing. These are sketches! Some people may spend two hours on a single sketch. Others may do two or three sketches in the allotted time.\nYou can use ANYTHING to produce your sketches…watercolor\, pen and ink\, pencil\, pastel\, dip pens\, twigs and ink\, markers\, and on and on.\nThe Throwdowns and discussion and camaraderie at the end are TOTALLY NONJUDGEMENTAL…and fun! Any and all comments will be constructive. I have never been involved with a group more accepting and helpful and welcoming than urban sketchers. Do NOT worry about being bad\, being judged\, or not being good enough.

SUMMARY:District Days 2025
DESCRIPTION:AIA CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA DISTRICT DAYS\nMake plans to meet your Senators and Representatives to eliminate and revise local and state design roadblocks\nPLAN AN APPOINTMENT DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST\nAugust 1 – August 31\, 2025\nIndividual Appointments \nDistrict Days is AIA Pennsylvania’s annual grassroots advocacy event and an opportunity to mobilize the membership to meet with our state’s legislators to establish architects as a resource to address the challenges facing their district and the state. It’s also an opportunity to introduce and remind lawmakers of architects’ contributions and expertise throughout their districts and beyond. \nThe primary goal of the District Days meetings is to build relationships with legislators through discussions around work and life in the district. These relationships are critical to furthering the profession and AIA Pennsylvania’s standing as a go-to resource for our elected officials to position us for better outcomes when we call on them to support the architects’ position throughout the legislative session. \nSteps for Advocacy Success\nHere’s a step-by-step review of the District Days pre-meeting action items that will set you up for success. \n1. Identify Your Legislators\nIdentify your state legislators (Senator and Representative) by inputting your home address in the “Find Your Legislator” feature. You will be asked to identify your legislators at registration. \n2. Register with Your Availability \nWe encourage you to meet in person in your legislators’ district office or host a “take your legislator to work” visit. Register yourself or your office* with your preferences and availability for August by Friday\, July 12\, so we can get your meetings on the books. \n3. Register for the District Days Primer\nWe will host a preparatory webinar date to be announced to cover a step-by-step roadmap for your meetings. On-demand replay access will be made available to those that cannot attend. All registered participants will receive the link to the webinar and a calendar invitation in mid July. \n4. Review the Blueprint\nReview the District Days “Blueprint” to participants\, covering step-by-step guidance for in-meeting\, post-meeting\, and some helpful dos and don’ts. \n5. Schedule a Pre-Meeting (if applicable)\nHosting your legislator(s) in your office? Do some reconnaissance to determine if your colleagues are constituents and invite them to participate in the visit/meeting. If you are meeting with your legislator in a group or hosting them in your office\, schedule a pre-meeting with all participants/colleagues to adapt the blueprint to work for your group. \n*If you are a Principal or Firm Leader\, consider hosting your legislator(s) at your office. Legislators are elected to serve you based on your residential address. Suppose your legislator(s)’ territory does not include your firm’s office. In that case\, we will look at several factors before extending the invite. A firm visit will allow your legislator to see firsthand how your work impacts clients and communities in their district\, throughout the Commonwealth\, and beyond.

Attorney Michael Pascoe\, who has been involved in providing an amicus brief to the court\, will introduce us to the case\, the theory on which the plaintiff is basing its claim\, and the legal framework on which the lower courts have relied thus far to deny the claim. \nPanelists will briefly discuss design and construction quality assurance procedures typically followed to limit errors and omissions\, how standards of care may have been different in the early 1980’s\, record documents that should be retained\, potential ramifications for other projects\, the need for closure\, and how physical damages or personal injuries resulting from an error or omission might affect liability term limits. Jon O’Brien will also outline efforts being made in Pennsylvania to legislate clearly defined time limits on A/E/C liability for public and private projects. Input and questions from attendees will be welcome! \nLearning objectives: \n\nRecognize the obligation of building owners to provide facilities that are conducive to the safety and well-being of their occupants.\nIdentify traditional contract and statutory provisions governing post-construction error and omission claims.\nUnderstand QAQC procedures that limit or eliminate post-construction error and omission claims and help to ensure life safety.\nAscertain the construction project record documents necessary for long term retention and how they may help in future claims resulting from personal injury\, physical damage\, or the cost of remedying design or construction errors or omissions.\n\nThis program has been submitted to the AIA CES for 1 HSW/LU. Continuing education certificates will be available to all attendees. \nDinner reservations are required for all attending at $30 per person. \nRegister and pay at www.cpc-csi.com no later than 6:00 pm\, Monday\, September 8. \nDinner will be served buffet style\, including:\nFettuccini Alfredo with Grilled Chicken\, Stuffed Shells & Meatballs\, Broccoli\, Fried Zucchini\, Garden Salad\, Caeser Salad\, and choice of non-alcoholic beverage. \nAll are welcome to attend the CPC-CSI Board Meeting from 5:00-6:00 pm.\nContact Chris Atwood by email at atwochristop77@gmail.com or phone at (717) 579-4354 with any questions.  \n\nTickets\n\n$30 CSI Chapter Dinner \n$30 CSI Chapter Dinner \n\nView Meeting \nREGISTER TODAY

DESCRIPTION:Let’s go!\nCome out for our September Sketch Crawl!\n\nWHEN:\nSaturday\, March 21\, 2026\nWHERE: \nWe’ll meet in a location to be determined \nTIME:\nSketch Crawl 11:00 AM-1:00  PM\nSketch Throwdown 1-2 PM\, location to be determined. \nInvite a friend\, see you there! \n\nINVITE A FRIEND(S)\, SEE YOU THERE! \nGroup Contact: James Hamrick – Architect \n\n\nPO Box 20638\nYork\, PA 17402\n\n717/891.2681\njim@hamrickarchitect.com\n\nPlease visit the group’s site on Facebook (South Central PA Urban Sketchers) for more info about the group\, announcements\, and photos.

SUMMARY:AIA Central PA Architecture Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:AIA Pennsylvania Announces Statewide Architecture Week Initiative for K-5 Students—–Bringing Design Thinking to Every Corner of the Commonwealth\nAIA Pennsylvania is thrilled to announce a new statewide initiative for Architecture Week 2026 (April 12-18) designed to bring architectural inspiration and design thinking directly to children across all 67 counties of Pennsylvania. \nOur goal is to foster creativity and introduce the power of design to the next generation in a fun\, accessible way. \nStories and Design\nIn partnership with the Pennsylvania Library Association and Pennsylvania’s 67 county library systems\, volunteer architects from AIA Pennsylvania will host interactive\, hands-on sessions for K-5 students. \n\n\n\nEach engaging storyhour will combine literacy and design thinking: \n\nArchitecture-Themed Reading: Children will enjoy a reading of a specially selected architecture-themed children’s book\, Iggy Peck\, Architect. A copy of the book will be provided to each participating library system for their permanent collection.\nGuided Design Activity: Following the story\, students will participate in a guided design activity\, designing different built environments for specific animals and their communities.\n\nReaching Every County\nThis initiative aims to involve approximately 1\,300 students statewide\, with sessions planned for every county library system. By leveraging the reach of our partners at the Pennsylvania Library Association\, we are ensuring that children in all corners of the state have the opportunity to participate in this enriching program. \nGet Involved\nRegister to host an architect-led story hour and activity at your nearest county library system. \nSponsor the purchase of additional copies of Iggy Peck\, Architect for distribution to Pennsylvania libraries. \nEncourage teachers and librarians you know to lead architecture themed lessons and events. \nOther Ways to Participate in Architecture Week\nArchitecture Week is a nationwide celebration recognizing the power of good design\, with a goal of inspiring hopeful architecture and design professionals and K-12 students.  AIA National provides several opportunities for engaging with students and sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm for the profession. \nDownload the Architecture Week\, Animal Dice activity to play at home or share. \nRegister for a virtual read-aloud session with children’s architecture book authors. \nGet involved in Architecture Week by sharing social media posts\, contributing to a wish list\, inviting students to your firm\, sending a letter to your local schools or libraries\, or actively engaging with students throughout the week.
