AIA Central PA Summer Series 2022

The summer series is a series of 3 walking tour events to view and discuss architecture in Harrisburg, York and Lancaster.   Each tour will look to uncover prominent and unique architecture in each city.  The tours will contain lively discussions and memorable networking opportunities.  The series is designed to welcome professional new to architecture and seasoned professionals alike.   We will continue to update this page as we finalize tours for each city.  There will be one tour per month throughout the summer.

June Tour: HARRISBURG

Join AIA Central PA in Harrisburg on June 28th at 4:30PM for an informal presentation, discussion, and walking tour of some of the prominent, yet underappreciated, examples of Art Deco architecture and design in our commonwealth’s capital.  We’ll be looking at artwork by world-renowned Art Deco sculptor, Lee Oscar Lawrie, as well as great examples of Art Deco’s Brick Expressionism as captured in the Payne Shoemaker and Harrisburger Hotel buildings (circa 1929 and 1930 respectively).

When: Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at 4:30 PM

Where: Meeting location* – Meet at the northwest (park-side) corner of N 7th Street and South Drive.  This location is directly next to the Forum Building in the Capitol Complex.

After discussing the State Street bridge pylons, we’ll walk southeast on N 7th to where is meets/becomes Walnut Street and walk south-west to N 3rd St.   Our last stop will be on the north side sidewalk of N 3rd Street across from Cranberry St.  This is between both the Hotel Harrisburger (Fulton Bank Building) and Payne Shoemaker buildings which sit along N 3rd.
